ABOUT SUSAN...

Hi, I’m Susan, finding art in fiber. I am a daughter, a mother, and a grandma and I come from a line of women who crochet, knit and sew. I have been making art and crafts for as long as I can remember. I am always fashioning something, from yarn, fabric, paper, or paint to bread dough and gardening, I love it all.

Math and grammar are my favorite subjects so patterns and writing are a natural fit. I focus primarily on crochet. I have experience working from a simple pattern through some very complex pieces. Some things I make are styled from my own designs, others from the patterns of a variety of other designers’ patterns. I am well versed in pattern reading and writing.

Some of my favorite pieces are mandalas. I have tested and completed many. I have also tech edited quite a few.

I have completed Lynne Rowe’s Tech Editing Masterclass.

SERVICES

CROCHET TECHNICAL EDITING SERVICES

In order to be successful, I need you to be successful. I will make sure your pattern is correct, accurate and as easy to use as possible, while maintaining your unique style and voice. I focus on projects with which I am familiar and experienced.

Currently I am able to offer tech editing services for the following types of patterns:

  • Household/Decorative Items: Kitchen accessories, decorative pieces such as mandalas and wall hangings, bags of many types, pillows and poufs, etc., blankets, throws and rugs.
  • Accessories: Hats, headbands, scarves, cowls, shawls, purses, etc.
  • Garments: Simple tops, dresses and sweaters with basic design. I can also grade a simple design to multiple sizes.

I have experience working with easy through more advanced stitches, simple to moderate color work, including Intarsia and Mosaic crochet, and simple shaping.

OTHER SERVICES

  • Bulk Tech Editing - Bulk editing hours to use as you need in small increments or for one large project. Good for multiple small projects as hours do not expire. 3 hour minimum purchase.

  • Simple Pattern Check - A simple look through of your pattern highlighting errors, checking wording and style (your voice). No tech editing or corrections included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some questions that will help you get started. I know every project is unique, so please reach us at susanmarcille@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question, or you have further questions.

If you wish to use my services, please contact me through email, or via the contact form here on my website.

My average turnaround time is 5-7 days. I will let you know in the beginning if it will take longer, depending on my availability.

Once we discuss your project, I will ask that you provide me with a copy of your pattern so I can assess the level of editing needed. If I accept your pattern for editing, I will provide you with a time and cost range for the work. I can not anticipate all problems that will crop up so I use the time/cost range to give you the best possible estimate. I will never go over the estimate without discussing it with you first.

Every project is unique which is why I will provide you with an estimate customized to your project. Here are a few examples of how long a straightforward project may take:

  • Small patterns, mandalas, accessories, simple blankets: Approx. 1-2 hours
  • More complex patterns with multiple sizes, unusual construction: Approx 2-3 hours
  • Garments with multiple sizes: Approx 2-4 hours

For most basic edits, these are the steps that I will take:

  • Check that all necessary information is included: A list of materials needed, construction, measurements, gauge/tension, abbreviations, special stitches and any pattern notes.
  • Check any tutorials or special instructions to be sure they are clear and easy to follow.
  • Check wording for spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Check all abbreviations used against your list of stitch abbreviations.
  • Check all math and calculations.
  • Check sizing and grading against the gauge given.
  • Check for pattern accuracy in photos, schematics and charts (if you have them).
  • Check yarn requirements for different sizes.

I work from Google Docs (preferred), Microsoft Office or PDF. Google Docs is preferred because it is a simple format where we can communicate as I work.

While working together we will communicate through email and/or Google Docs. I will check in with you if I run across anything unusual I think you need to work on. When I am finished I will send the file to you.

If you want me to check it again I will (see cost above). I will recheck anything you think I missed or that you are unsure about. I can work with you to iron out the kinks. Your reputation and style are important to me!

No my services are for crochet only.
